Intellectual Output 3 - Research-oriented, transnational study programme
The core intention of the proPIC project was to develop an adaptable course structure that fosters CPD, and is determined by the interplay between research-orientation, transnational collaboration, and the creative use of mobile technologies. This IO3, the development of such an innovative study programme, is led by the University of Kiel (Germany) and is the core element of this project as it connects all other project outputs. Based on the Intellectual Output 1 and together with the other partners, the University of Education Karlsruhe (Germany) finalised the first version of the study programme before the start of the first cohort of students in 2018. The programme was then offered at all five partner institutions and adapted throughout the project
To ensure the process-orientation as well as the promotion of reflective thinking, the course included the production of ePortfolios of all participants. As part of the programme, the partners planned on hosting three transnational study weeks (Learning and Teaching Activities) each, inviting student teachers from the other partner institutions to take part in a range of activities that included for example school visits, joint seminars or round table discussions, as well as social events with local staff members or other local prospective students. However, due to the Corona Pandemic, the consortium was only able to organise two study weeks each.
To go in line with the research-orientation of the developed study programme a conference was organised by the University of Education Karlsruhe (Germany) at the end of the project. This Multiplier Event included presentations and talks of the prospective students who participated in the project, as well as of the project partners. Two keynote speakers and about 20 external participants were invited, too. Due to the Corona Pandemic, this conference had to be hosted online.

The final version of the study programme
As you can see above, it consisted of two courses (Course I and Course II), which contained five modules and one study week. All students taking part in the proPIC course at one partner institution, would have the modules at their local university, and go abroad to visit another partner university, meeting students from the other institutions during the study week. The equivalent of this whole programme had been 7-10 European credit points (ECTS points), depending on the institutional setting.
Within the project the programme ran three times in 3 years, starting in Spring 2018, half a year after the project kick-off. With each programme there were between 6 to 12 prospective teachers taking part in the courses at each partner institution. Originally we planned to have 12 per course, but ended up with fewer numbers. The students of one cohort took part in the programme for a about year (two semesters), although the exact duration differed depending on the partner institution.

Cohort 3: summer semester 2019 & winter semester 2019/2020 study week: cancelled due to COVID19
Planning to implement the study programme - the partners' action plans
Next to a detailed work plan and specific actions and tasks set after every partner meeting, which were shared in the form of regular minutes and reports, the consortium further developed particular actions to implement the study programme. This task was led by Newcastle University.
Implementing the study programme
In 2019, we identified two approaches how the study programme was to implemented at our partner insitutions, which was due to different institutional settings. Inspite of two different approaches to implement the study programme, the consortium identified a number of requirements and core elements, which they consider to be crucial for implementing the study programme effectively (see below).

Evaluation and Impact
Feedback surveyed via padlet in Kiel during cohort I after Course I
|
"I enjoyed and profited from getting to know the different models of CPD and exploring on your teaching experience the reflective cycle. I guess it showed to all of us the opportunity the exchange with colleagues has and the luck we have to do so within the course."
"But when I suggested working with the mind mapping tool (to be coherent with ProPIC's philosophy) I was surprised by the effect. It was fun to see how the scheme was growing and... it was truly collaborative."
"The contents of today's session were again very interesting and relevant for our future teaching contexts [...]."
|
"I worked with two other students, one from Boras and another from Barcelona; and we created an iBook on 'Getting to know Karlsruhe' [...]. I found this a very effective process in learning how to use iBooks author and widgets, and it was really good to work in a small group to do this [...]."
"Make sure that there are more participants (4 in Kiel) so that the study week really is about working with international students."
"Not so many activities, because it's better to focus on less activities than doing a lot of them but in a superficial way."

Sustainability and Exploitation
How our partners plan to exploit the proPIC project...
"As frameworks for a study programme, CPD and assessment have been developed, other stakeholders can implement parts of the project. As it has been an global approach new partnerships could research on special parts of the project, for example special focus on video production or e-Portfolios in teaching."
|
"The understanding of differences in students´skills of using digital tools. Not all young students are digital wizards just because they are born in the digital age."
"Apart from the experience, the possibility to develop their own CPD and the work with ICT tools for teaching."
|
"A future project is planned that takes over the idea of transnational collaboration amongst students in the context of video production in language teaching education."
|
"Handed in another EU project based in the idea of proPIC (called proTED)"
